Generation X or XXL?

As I was driving to work this morning I noticed a billboard with a picture of a young child holding an ice cream cone and the caption saying “I won’t be part of Generation XXL”. I have no idea what the product was but the caption caught my attention. That’s because obesity rates among children are at an all time high. To add to the problem, the first programs at many middle schools around the country to get cut amid budget problems are P.E. programs. Combine that with parents who, often due to no fault of their own, have absolutely no idea how to help their children live a healthy lifestyle, and we’ve got serious problems. The strain on the healthcare system in the coming years will undoubtedly be enormous, not to mention the psychological burden that results from growing up overweight or obese. As parents, you have an obligation to help where society lacks. It’s imperative that you set good examples and provide proper guidance for your children. It’s also imperative that everyone be as educated as you can about the “growing” issues so you can do something about it.

The problem isn’t just with the children, though. Adults in America are also growing at an alarming rate. It’s true. Clothing sizes have been adjusted so that size 10 is the new size 15, or size 6 is the new size 10. Again, it’s imperative that you do as much for your own health as you can because no one will do it for you.

There’s no “magic pill” that will burn fat and liposuction is no quick fix…it packs a host of problems on it’s own and is NOT the answer. You must do what you can to educate yourself and make sure that the information you receive is sound. If you need to hire a trainer, by all means do so, but don’t just accept what he or she has to say as law. Do your own research and ask questions. Remember, if you’re not being challenged, you’re probably not going to see much change.

Stay focused and train hard.
